Sometimes, you just can’t beat the original. This rings especially true for the wild and wonderful world of vibrators. There are many different flavors and varieties of vibrator for both men and women. For the purposes of this review, we are going to focus on one of my favorite types of vibrators: the wand vibrator. We specifically want to provide an extensive review of the godfather of all vibrators, the Hitachi Magic Wand.
About the Hitachi Magic Wand
This is truly the epitome of vibrator delight. It is the first real vibrator, and remains the all-time best selling vibrator for women. Now, technically this isn’t a “vibrator” as sold. It’s meant to be a massager for muscles after intense sports. But, at some point women discovered what made the wand so “magical”. Tthe true nature and value of the Magic Wand was discovered, and ever since it’s been off to the races!

The Magic Wand is intense. As vibrators go, this one rumbles at the high end of the spectrum. It puts all bullet vibrators and almost all rabbits vibes to shame. A clitoral-focused vibe, this model has a large silicone head that transmits incredible vibrations at various speed levels throughout the genital area.
With its corded original model, you will never need to worry about running out of juice, either. However, the Magic Wand also now comes in a rechargeable model for better portability.

The Devil in the Details
If there was one word to describe the Hitachi Magic Wand, it would be ridiculous. Not in a bad way, either. The device is over a foot long, with a vibrating silicone head that is roughly the size of a standard tennis ball. Be warned, the ball is not meant to go inside you. Remember, it was developed for sore muscles in the shoulders and back. But hey, if your clitoris is sore, you’ve got a friend there with the Magic Wand.
At close to two pounds in weight, the Magic Wand will be one of the heaviest vibrators you will use. As stated above, the original model plugs into a wall outlet, classifying it as an “appliance”, which is, back to our word, ridiculous.
Don’t be too concerned about the cord getting in the way. It is six feet long, but can get tricky if you are far from a wall or on the top bunk of a bunk bed. The outside is made of hard ABS plastic(non-porous and body safe material), with a tiny metallic rim located around the handle.
Good Vibrations?
Controlling the Hitachi Magic Wand is a simple process. There is one button on the handle to control the two available speeds: powerful and insanity. The “low” speed provides intense rumble and is more powerful than most bullet vibes’ highest speeds. The “high” speed is gut-wrenchingly rumbly.
To put the speeds into perspective, a washing machine runs at around 1,500 rpm. The low and high speeds of the Hitachi Magic Wand run at 5,000 and 6,000 rpm, respectively. The Magic Wand is so intense that it requires a half hour cool down period after 25 minutes of continuous use. However, if you last more than five minutes with this thing before a gripping orgasm, more power to you.
No Numbness
Even with the intense vibrations, the Hitachi Magic Wand is not the type of vibrator that is going to cause your hand to shake or go numb after extended use. For any men out there reading, some vibrators have a result equivalent to 15 minutes with a weed eater.
Instead, the vibrations are mostly isolated in the head of the device. They can barely be felt in the handle, even at the more powerful speeds.
But what about the noise?
The Magic Wand is loud. On the highest speeds it sounds like a jet taking off. Discretion is not much of an option with this vibrator, as it can be heard very well throughout a quiet house and through doors.
However, it sounds more electronic and high pitched. It’s a middle ground between needing to turn up the porno and needing to grab some earplugs. In short: It’s loud, but not insane.
Desensitization Issues?
Can the power of the Hitachi Magic Wand cause issues with desensitization? Can this vibrator destroy the feeling of your clitoris, or the power of orgasms, or the feeling of sex? Will it end your ability to orgasm in other ways?
Guess what: No to all of that.
There is no evidence at all that vibrators can cause any type of desensitization or permanent damage to the vagina or genital area. However, just as any other type of sensation, the mind and body can grow accustomed to the vibrations. They can act like an orgasm trigger, and orgasming with other objects (or people) can become difficult.
However, the sensation is temporary. It disappears once the vagina has had some time to rest (much like the Magic Wand come to think about it). Regardless, if you are still orgasming, it’s great news. It doesn’t matter if it’s from your partner, your fingers, or the insatiable rumble of the Hitachi Magic Wand.
Who is the Hitachi Magic Wand for?
There are some women who would find the Hitachi Magic Wand to be far too intense. This is not a vibrator for beginners. If you’re new to the wild and wonderful world of sex toys, the Wand will be an insane shocker.
However, regardless this vibrator has great beginner potential for those women who have difficult orgasming. It is the streak-killer. Believe it or not, there are plenty of women who thank the Magic Wand for giving them their first orgasm ever.
For many women, orgasming can be quite a struggle. Having the queen of all vibrators at the ready will take those dreams and make them a reality. Are you the type of woman who gets no satisfaction from your fingers? Are other toys not giving you the good vibrations you need? If so, the powerful rumbles of the Hitachi Magic Wand can likely put you over the edge.
